With the ‘Make Way for the Speed Bike’ plan presented yesterday, initiators BAM Infra, Royal HaskoningDHV, BYCS, Gazelle and Mijksenaar show how Schiphol can be reached by bicycle.
Schiphol is one of the busiest regions in the world. The airport processes around 68.5 million passengers annually and employs 60,000 people. In general, people travel there by car and public transport, causing traffic congestion. The accessibility of Schiphol is at stake, and the air quality is suffering.
‘Make Way for the Speed Bike’ aims at stimulating the use of the e-bicycle or speed bike. In the short term this offers a sustainable and realistic solution for accessibility in the region.
The mobility concept focuses on using the speed bike in the Hoofddorp-Amsterdam region, with Schiphol as its centre. Key elements are the construction of a 22-kilometre quick cycle route, the Fly + Bike* concept, and the development of a bicycle sharing system.
*For tourists there is Fly + Bike. They can book a bicycle directly when booking their ticket and use it to get from the airport to Amsterdam. They can immediately start to see the sights on their wish list.
