Mid-century icon meets 21st century PaxEx
Washington Dulles International Airport features an Eero Saarinen-designed terminal building, juxtaposed against two contemporary midfield concourses. Our challenge was to develop a state-of-the-art wayfinding system that adapts to the needs of travelers today and tomorrow–all while celebrating the airport’s iconic heritage.
We drew inspiration from the terminal’s mid-century architecture, industrial design, and typography. Our signage design integrates seamlessly into both the timeless, historic terminal and the contemporary concourses alike. The signs introduced efficient, long-lifespan LED lighting.
Mijksenaar-formulated wayfinding strategy and information design ensure that travelers can always find their way.
