Discover 500 years of maritime history
Het Scheepvaartmuseum, Amsterdam Period: 2010–ongoing
The National Maritime Museum (Dutch: Het Scheepvaartmuseum) is a maritime museum in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The museum received almost 350,000 visitors in 2017. It was the 11th most visited museum in the Netherlands in 2013.
The National Maritime Museum houses separate exhibitions for three different target groups. The wayfinding concept is based on these three exhibition categories which are accessible through three different staircases of the museum. The fourth staircase provides access to the museum.
The floor plan of the monumental building plays a major role in the wayfinding of the museum. It presents the visitor with an overview of the exhibitions and from which staircase from which they can be approached.
