Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Period: 2004–2005
Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is a 16.3-acre (6.6-hectare) complex of buildings in Manhattan, New York City.
It hosts many notable performing arts organizations including the New York Philharmonic, and the Metropolitan Opera, and the New York City Ballet.
Mijksenaar performed a wayfinding study for the Lincoln Center Campus in cooperation with 2×4.
In essence, Lincoln Center is not that complex to sign. The complexity is caused by the many events accomodated by various facilitators.
Based on our analysis, we proposed a homogeneous series of internally illuminated ‘totems’. To avoid having to direct too many destinations in different directions, we suggested a directional route map for these totems. This is a simplified map, in the correct projection for the specific location.
