In spring of 2010 the building of the Maritiem Museum Rotterdam (MMR), originally built by architect Wim Quist, underwent a major renovation by Studio Ramin Visch, who built a new entrance and modernised the museum’s interior. This transformation also triggered the MMR to invest in a new Mijksenaar signage system.

The design matches both the old and new architecture in material, colour and design language. The austere concrete shapes of Wim Quist are reflected in the gray and angular shapes of the signs. The new entrance, composed of thick vermilion-coloured steel plates, recurs in the colour accents (such as identification) and the materialisation of the signs – a 3mm steel plate – with invisible mounting.
